where Matt Pina has made a difference for the Citizens of Des Moines
- Helped to broker an agreement with several government entities to
provide several million in sound attenuation mitigation dollars, matched
with community funds that resulted in four new Des Moines schools. The
agreements offset the mitigation costs to prevent the local community from
having to shoulder that financial burden.
- Mt. Rainier High School
- Parkside Elementary School
- North Hill Elementary School
- Midway Elementary School
- Successfully championed to keep North Hill students in Des Moines schools when the district redrew its boundaries.
- Brokered conversations that led to the refinancing of existing bond debt reducing the tax burden to the community.
- Negotiated and brokered arrangements to support the (SRO) school resource officer program, keeping officers on our campuses and creating a relationship between students and law enforcement.
- Passed policy requiring fiscally responsible financial reserves to help mitigate the impacts of economic downturns and state budget cuts.
- Campaigned in support of the Police Levy Lid lift that our community passed, allowing the appropriate restoration of our police department.
- In a non-elected capacity:
- Matt has worked with local representatives encouraging them to seek a solution for saving the Mt. Rainier pool that would be ready in enough time to allow the voters to have a voice and make a choice as a community.
